  "In January of 1898, at age 28, she married Henry Bade who had a farm slightly over a mile north of the Flemming farm. This was her lifetime home.
  "She was a rather quiet person around a group of people. Within her family she was a very kind and caring person - a wonderful grandmother to eight grandchildren. She was slightly cross-eyed, but it was overlooked by most people. When her son, Alfred, was married in 1926, the farm was turned over to him and his wife, Mildred. Gustie turned her homemaker role over to her daughter-in-law then. The two couples continued living together. Gustie became the silent, behind-the-scenes assistant house keeper who quietly worked diligently and never complained about her demoted role in the house which once was hers alone. She was a busy-body and in the midst of all farm work, especially making meals, gardening, house cleaning, canning and washing. She was a very special person.
