DIED SUDDENLY OF APOPLEXY.
Thomas Deremo, an Aged Resident of Wall Lake Township,Gone
Thomas Deremo died at his home in
north Wall Lake township at nine o'clock
Thursday evening, February 14, 1901, of
of apoplexy. He was sitting by the stove
shelling corn and fellfrom his chair, dy-
ing almost instantly. His age was 80
years, 3 months and 27 days. The funer-
al was held at the Plesant Prairie
church on Sunday at noon. Rev. Issac
N. Aldrich, of Orion, near Detroit, MIch.,
preached from Psalm 23-4 and Rev. Rufus
Hayden, himself past 80 years, a minister
of the Freewill Baptist church, made ap-
proiate remarks and offered prayer.
The remains were interred in the Fergu-
son Cemetery.
Thomas Deremo was born in Jefferson
county,N.Y., October 18, 1830 . He
moved with his parenst to St. Lawrence
county, N. Y. where he married Miss
*** Hannah E. Parkhurst ***. Six children were
born to them, two of whom only are liv-
ing, namely: Mrs. Anna Straight, of
Sac City, and Joseph L. Deremo, of Jack-
son, Wis. *** The subject of this sketch,
with his family , moved from New York
in 1852 to Beloit, WIs. where his wife
died on June 1, 1855. *** On December 4,
1857 he married Miss Mary Spencer, in
Wisconsin. Five children were born to
them and three survive, namely: John S.
Deremo and Ella McClintick, of Wall
Lake Township, and Wm. H. Deremo,
of Pettis, Iowa. In the fall of 1872
he mmoved with his family to Sac county,
Iowa, living on the Eugene Criss farm for
two years, when he located on the farm
he purchased in Wall Lake township,
which since had been his home. The
decedent was converted in 1857 and unit-
ed with the Baptist Church, of which he
remained a faithful and consistant mem-
ber until death. He had the reputation
of being a man of honor, uprightness and
integrity.
