The Lulu Awards are given out by the Friends of Lulu, an organization dedicated to supporting comic books for women and women creators of comic books.

The awards are announced each year at the Comic-Con International: San Diego convention. Only material published the previous calendar year is eligible.

Category explanation & criteria:

Female Cartoonists Hall of Fame: Nominees must have published comic book, strip, or editorial cartoon work, whether self-published, company-published, or net-published. An individual cannot win more than once.

Lulu of the Year: For the creator (male or female), book or other entity whose work best exemplifies Friends of Lulu's mission statement. Nominees must have published comic book, strip, or editorial cartoon work, whether self-published, company-published, or net-published.

Kimberly A. Yale Award for Best New Talent: Awarded to a woman who has worked in the comic book & comic strip industry for less than two years. The category is named for a comic book writer & Friends of Lulu founding member who died in 1997.

Women of Distinction Award: Criteria is similar to the Hall of Fame, except that it is open to all women in the comic book field, rather than only writers & artists.
